** Ghealdanin **Armed with lances bearing green streamers, these "... mounted soldiers' green coats and armor appeared drab ... but their officers sparkled in silvered armor and scarlet coats and cloaks, with reins and saddlecloths fringed in crimson." <WH: 2, 99, Taken> In CoT, the lancers' armor is "bright" and "shining", not drab; "bright conical helmets", and "conical green helmets" are both described <CoT: 8, 227, Whirlpools of Color; 25, 565, When to Wear Jewels>. To add to the confusion, in KoD, Arganda's Ghealdanin are depicted in both burnished breastplates and dark green conical helmets ... <KoD: 4, 152, A Deal> My best guess, based on the above: common soldiers have burnished breastplates under drab green coats and dark green helmets. Officers are bright and shiny. But admittedly, the common soldiers' description is inconsistent. Their First Captain Arganda especially stands out, with his silks, with three short, fat, white plumes on a gleaming silvered helmet with shining face-bars, and gold-work over the silver of his breastplate. <WH: 2, 102-3, Taken; KoD: 4, 152, A Deal, 29, 633, The Last Knot> Finally, the bannerman carries "... a staff with a red banner bearing the three six-pointed Silver Stars of Ghealdan." <CoT: 25, 565, When to Wear Jewels> |
